4-H builds confident and capable youth -Letter from our Executive Director

Spring is scholarship time at the Minnesota 4-H Foundation. In March and April we receive applications for our post-secondary scholarships available for Minnesota 4-H’ers. This is a time for graduating 4-H youth to share their 4-H achievements and successes with us through those applications.   And it is a time for us to be reminded of how many capable 4-H young people there are across our state.

The members of our fund distribution committee, who read these applications, tell me every year how impressed they are with our 4-H youth. Through their participation in 4-H, so many young Minnesotans have learned the life skills they need to face their future with strength and confidence. That confidence comes through 4-H; where youth learn that they are capable – capable to solve problems, to make good decisions, to thrive in whatever situation they face. I want that for all youth. If every young person in our state felt the confidence that comes from being capable, we would all be facing a brighter future.

Please do what you can to encourage youth you know to join 4-H.  Help them find a club. Go with them to the first few meetings. Or better yet become a 4-H volunteer and start a club in your own neighborhood or community.  We need you to help make 4-H available for all Minnesota youth. Together we can help every young person have the opportunities through 4-H to build confidence in themselves.

You can learn more about the Minnesota 4-H Foundation scholarships by visiting our website. And if you would like to establish a new scholarship fund for 4-H youth please call me at 612-624-8132. I'd be happy to speak with you!
