Who in your community needs 4-H?

In 4-H, youth build the skills they need to lead for a lifetime. You know this because you're living it out each day. You are connecting with caring adults who encourage you to learn and grow. You are developing friendships with youth across towns, counties and all over the state that will last for many years to come. 4-H is an amazing place to grow up.

But there is a problem
Thousands of Minnesota youth don't yet know that 4-H is the perfect place for them. In fact, research shows that up to 350,000 young people right here in Minnesota aren't involved in out-of-school enrichment activities. These young people don't live hours away from you. They are your classmates, your neighbors, and even members of your faith community.

4-H’ers are problem solvers
There are two things I especially appreciate about Minnesota 4-H’ers. You are committed to community and love finding solutions to the challenges around you. We need your help. We need you to be connectors for the youth and families who aren’t yet part of us. It doesn’t take much, just a little time and a willingness to share your 4-H story.

Now is the time
As the school year gets started, families are deciding where their kids will spend their free time. Because your family chose 4-H, you have access to projects and experiences that help you learn, grow, and make a difference. Who around you needs those same opportunities? Who could you invite to join your club or explore a project you love? Who could you encourage to start their own club?
I hope you will be brave and welcome new youth and families into your 4-H community. Help the people around you discover that 4-H is a great place to grow up.
Thank you for being a member of 4-H. And thank you for sharing 4-H with other young people. It is exciting to watch you grow into true leaders.

Sincerely,
Dorothy M. Freeman
Associate dean and state 4-H director
