Pine County 4-H'ers use their hands for larger service

Minnesota 4-H is committed to teaching youth the importance of using their hands for larger service. Hallie is a 6th grader in Pine County and has been a 4-H member for 7 years. She, along with her fellow club members, has been participating in an ongoing service project at The Manor, a home for senior citizens in Pine City, Minnesota. This project has really developed in these young people a commitment to being in relationship with older members of their community.

A few times a year Hallie's 4-H club visits The Manor to give small gifts to the residents and spend time getting to know them. During the holiday season they made and delivered cookies and sang carols and in the spring they love to bring hand-potted plants that their senior friends can plant in the local community garden.

"I've learned a lot from this service project," said Hallie. "I’m not only learning the value of being consistent and dependable when serving my community but also have seen how special it is to build friendships with the senior citizens in our county."

The many service projects that Pine County 4-H’ers do each year are successful because of faithful and generous financial support from alumni and friends of 4-H. Gifts of both time and money ensure that youth are able to live out the 4-H Pledge of using their hands for larger service.

Hallie is just one of over 300 youth in Pine County who are learning about community service from Minnesota 4-H programs. I’d like to invite you to support 4-H in Pine County and across Minnesota so service projects like this one can continue to happen.  Please consider making a gift today to the Minnesota 4-H Foundation and help youth like Hallie to learn, lead, and succeed.
